"I don’t want to sound disingenuous, but to me it’s not sexy—it’s gorgeous. It’s about hunger and insatiability, a trailer without a movie behind it, an ad only for itself."-Minter

Her work is so full on, beautiful, rich sparkling erotic pretty over the top fun feminine
wow
i love the extreme close ups, she doesn't crop the photos which astounds me she must get RIGHT up in their business to get these shots! The wetness is almost grotesque, dripping, moist, beads of water like sweat or tears. mooooiiiissssttt. moist.
Seeing this makes me want to use more extreme close ups in my work. Minter photographs these things then has her students help her to paint them, so a few of the above pictures are actually paintings, you can tell on the one of the little girl. The moving image works so well, the tongue curling and licking is repulsive and alluring. I think it says a lot more than the painting and photographs and has a greater impact when you first see it although after watching it a few times and reading about it you start to deconstruct it and just see it for what it is.
the lighting, strong shadows vivid colours, the use of reflective and transparent materials, glass, diamond thingees, water, sparkles, bubbles. fucking mint.

“This is inappropriate and uncouth. But I can’t stop looking at it, even though it’s not appealing.”
“This is inappropriate and uncouth. But I can’t stop looking at it, even though it’s not appealing.”
“Is it an ad for gum? It said ‘chewing.’ ”
“I don’t care about any of the fucking shit around it—I like that there’s art in Times Square and want to see more.”
“It’s difficult to see when there’s so much around it.”
KID, POINTING: “What the fuck is that?”
MOM, ANGRILY: “It’s lips.”
“This is sick and horny.”
“In this context it’s grating, almost too shocking. Maybe people’s reactions are part of the art.”
Reactions from people passing by, from nymag.com"I was shooting stills of models with long tongues swirling and sucking bakery products from under a pane of glass. I wanted to make enamel paintings along the idea of 'painting with my tongue'. My makeup artist shot some short videos during the shoot just to see how it would look. The low definition videos looked so good that we made plans to do a professional high definition video. This made sense to me as I have made both billboards and produced a commercial advertising a painting show in 1989."
